How Redwood’s Mattress Manufacturing Process Has Evolved
Published 2nd March 2026
Redwood has come a long way since we started trading in 1993, growing from a specialist fabric supplier to one of the most trusted names in mattress manufacturing worldwide. Each step has been driven by customer demand, with Redwood investing in the very best for those customers by introducing state-of-the-art mattress manufacturing technology throughout the process.
In this article, we’ll trace Redwood’s journey from specialist technical fabrics, through white label medical mattress covers, to finished mattress manufacturing for the world’s leading brands, in both the medical and retail sectors. We’ll show you why, today, Redwood are the first choice for mattress manufacturing, offering a unique combination of quality and service, innovation and expertise.
First for Fabrics: The Technical Textile Specialists
As our name suggests, Redwood TTM began life as a technical textiles manufacturer and wholesaler in 1993. We supplied the very latest specialist fabrics to the mattress manufacturing industry, including flame retardant fabrics, non-slip and high slip fabrics, anti-bacterial and waterproof fabrics.
Redwood developed a reputation for sourcing and supplying exactly what our customers needed, offering high-performance, dependable, value-for-money fabrics. As well as producing our own fabrics, we developed excellent working relationships with suppliers from around the world, enabling us to offer an unrivalled range to meet any customer requirements.
Inevitably, those same customers began to ask if we could provide our fabrics as finished mattress covers, and we were happy to oblige.
We’ve Got It Covered: State of the Art Manufacturing
In 2007, Redwood moved into a brand new facility in the North West of England, and began manufacturing white label mattress covers for leading brands in the medical sector.
We applied the same high standards to our finished covers as we did to our fabrics, and so our reputation continued to grow. We extended our facilities to incorporate the very latest HF and Ultrasonic seam welding equipment. This complemented our traditional sewing services and further extended our product range. We also kept right up to date with all the latest advances in fabric technology, to ensure our clients got the very best performance possible.
Once again, our clients wanted more from us, asking if we could provide a complete mattress manufacturing service, and again, Redwood was happy to help.
A One Stop Shop: The Move to Full Mattress Manufacturing
In 2016, Redwood invested in a state of the art foam conversion plant to enable us to deliver a one-stop mattress manufacturing service. From sourcing and cutting foam in a range of profiles for specialist medical use, to creating high performance mattress covers, Redwood were now able to deliver a complete product package.
At the same time, we built our storage facilities, delivery fleet and logistics capabilities, to enable us to provide full supply chain management for our customers, including just in time deliveries.
We’ve also been constantly developing our design and development team, to assist each and every client, whether they have a full specification or just an outline idea.
A Stitch in Time: Taking Care of the Future
Throughout our past, Redwood has never lost sight of the future. We’ve always put sustainability front and centre, using environmentally friendly materials, developing energy conscious manufacturing methods and minimising waste across all our operations.
We’re proud of our history, and the way we have grown through constantly delivering exactly what our customers want, but we never put what’s good for us ahead of what is right for our environment.
